A brief update

Hello to the small number of people subscribed to the Datamuse blog!

It’s been nearly three years since my last post, and in total I’ve only ever posted nine times since 2012 — less than once per year! I’m unlikely to post again in the foreseeable future, so I’m considering closing the Posthaven account that hosts this blog. It’s become a magnet for comment spam, and most of the content is out of date anyway.

If you enjoy words and wordplay, you can now find me writing more regularly through the OneLook newsletter, which comes out about every other week. You can subscribe at that link or browse the back issues.

While this blog has been dormant, Datamuse is not!   In the past few years we've added an entirely new service (CivicSearch), significantly enhanced OneLook, worked with a dozen or so student co-ops, and sold RhymeZone to a mysterious 200-year-old publisher known for its dictionaries.  The Datamuse API hasn’t changed much in years, but it still powers hundreds of websites and apps, and in its decade of operation it’s had remarkably little downtime (knock on wood).

My father, Harvey, passed away last year. He co-founded Datamuse with me and Rob Raisch back in 2000, and for more than two decades he was its business engine and moral center. He managed the books, answered over 8,000 user emails, and for years served as the de facto editor and caretaker of OneLook. Datamuse was one of his great joys, and I carry on its work in his honor.

Thank you for reading!
